Being ACCOUNTABLE is the greatest gift you can give yourself in 2021!
I work with high performers every day who are highly accountable – to their work, boss, team, and to achieve outcomes for their organizations.
But not all are accountable to themselves.
They regularly let themselves down by not living up to the personal standards and boundaries they set for themselves and that they deserve.
They work on weekends.
They check emails during family time.
They move personal appointments around to accommodate work meetings.
They say “yes” to every new project that comes along.
And for many, this scenario has gotten worse over the past year!
Does this sound familiar?
This year BE INTENTIONAL and answer these questions...
What is no longer serving you?
What do you plan to leave behind in 2020?
What do you want to LEVEL UP?
What new behaviors & habits will you create in the new year?
Honor yourself with personal standards & boundaries.
Be accountable to yourself. Create these strategies at work and home that are essential to you and put them into practice immediately:
Set your intentions. An intention is simply a guiding word or phrase that helps guide your actions throughout that day. For example, I will say “no” to things that don’t serve me so that I have time to take care of myself. I will be balanced with my time so that others get me at my best. Your intentions should evoke a feeling and raise your emotional energy – in turn, your physical strength – better positioning you to be motivated & inspired to achieve your goals, actions, to-dos.
Create your goals andto-dos. If you don’t have a plan, you can’t hold yourself accountable for anything. Start by writing down your goals to help you get clear on what, exactly, it is that you want to accomplish (you are 42% more likely to achieve something when you write it down!). This detailed drill-down is designed to ensure focus against the specific action we need to take and the “to-do” list we need to check off during the year.
Make a schedule. A list of goals, actions, tasks isn’t enough. When are you going to do each item on that list? What is the most important? What needs to be done first? Create a schedule and hold yourself to it. Start each day with your plan.
Review your performance. Review your performance each day. You can review at the end of each task or review all of your tasks at the end of the day. Make a note of your successes and failures.
Have others check in with you. Share your plans with others. Talk about what is important to you and ask that they inquire about your efforts regularly to help you stay on course.
What would you be capable of accomplishing if you could hold yourself more accountable each day?
In 2021 hold yourself responsible in all areas of your life.
Be accountable to yourself, and anything is possible!
